What if you could stand on Titan, Saturn’s moon, and look back at Earth? Would reality look the same? Truth? Existence? Big questions, I know. But that’s exactly what R.A.W. asked us to think about in 2022. Not just an art exhibition—more like a dare. A wild, playful, and deeply curious conversation inspired by Kurt Vonnegut’s absurd antiwar masterpiece, The Sirens of Titan. Over ninety works—paintings, sculptures, performances, videos, installations. All of it pulling you out of what you thought was real. It wasn’t about pretty brushstrokes or perfect symmetry. It was about shaking up your brain. And it was Roland Scotti’s grand finale after 16 years at the Kunstmuseum Appenzell. The subtitle Sirens of Titan? I took him literally.
A Kaleidoscope in Book Form
The exhibition is over. But the buzz? Still there. It lingers in the official catalogue—a project I got to design and photograph some artworks for. This book isn’t just paper and ink. It’s like holding a tiny universe in your hands. A kaleidoscope, frozen mid-spin. What happens when you open it? Does it come alive again? Maybe.
Own a Piece of R.A.W. ?
It’s a tribute. To Roland’s 16 years in Appenzell. To his bold, unwavering focus on women artists. To the very idea of challenging how we see. Think of it as a keepsake. A spark of inspiration. A little piece of history you can hold in your hands. Did you miss the exhibition? No worries. Want to carry its legacy with you? The R.A.W. catalogue is still available to order. It could give something intriguing to dive into.
